I loved how they use the perspective in point of view at times, the animation is clear, crispy, colorful and soothing somehow. The voice acting is ON point.
The color palette is exquisite, the usage of the angles, my god it’s well done, so well done, I am reading the manga and it’s getting really interesting, they better give me a satisfying ending hehe, I am curious about what they will do with the anime, for the moment, it’s one of the titles I’ll be watching happily.
The interactions between Touko and Yuu..I don’t know if it’s because I am ill but even I got doki-doki. haha

Now moving onto a darker terrain, let’s talk about Happy Sugar Life, the anime and specially the ending, because man, it was quite a sight!

Needless to say this will be full of spoilers as can be, spoil, spoiling the world away!!!!

If you made it to the end,I don’t need to talk much more about the characters, also it’s not necessary if you have read the manga and you should. Satou is this high school (?) girl who finds randomly a little girl (seriously, how old is Shio?) who was just abandoned by her mother (don’t blame the mom, her life is pure shitty misery) and her big bro (Damn poor Asahi) is looking frantically for her , Satou’s aunt is,well, I’d not dare to say she’s whacko and totally out of her mind, she seems to be not exactly a masochist, but the kind of person who would accept anyone and love them, even if this means they hit her or more, there’s other cool characters, like Mitsuboshi-kun who was a regular guy, he got raped by this older woman and turned into a full-blown lolicon, he does get creepy, then a lolicon teacher, the stalkerish girl who loves Satou and of course Satou’s friend Shoko.
So anyway, just as it happened at the beginning of the anime, the whole building is on fire, well the floor where Satou’s flat is, (you go aunt! no half-hearted job done here!) and we see Satou and Shio jumping off the roof, but how did they get there?
I’ll just talk about the very last episode, so Asahi finally meets Shio, she tells him she’s better off with Satou and that she doesn’t need him or their mother no more, all this while Matsuboshi-kun is again raped, this time by.. Satou’s aunt!!, Satou and Shio escape to the roof, where, cornered by fire, decide to die together cos, life isn’t worthy without each other (pfff) so they do so, BUT, at the last moment, Satou realizes she cares about Shio enough to want her to live, she is not that selfish girl anymore, I think she had a hint of what real love is and thus tries to protect Shio from the fall. She does so by tightetning her hug so she’ll take most of the impact. Ouch.
She dies of course, most likely in a quick, sorta painless way (I like to think that) , while Shio is surely fucked up a bit from the fall but alive nonetheless, we see her mother looking at the hospital from far away (where the hell you been oka-san??!!) , Asahi enters the room and offers her to live together with him, but alas! She is now slightly different, we can kind of see the same look in her eyes that Satou had, aka she a whacko yandere now. Maybe not exactly, but she surely has changed, she wasn’t this innocent little girl the entire time, make no mistake, she wasn’t bad either but she had some issues of her own, she needed to fill her emptiness, as did Satou, they called this love, although we know love isn’t about filling our voids with people or even feelings.
You have to fill it yourself first, be a jar full of juice, then you can serve some juice to share with someone, that is love. The juice analogy is just the best, I know.
Now, the aunt is taken to jail for burning the damn place, she’s so casual about it,like “Yes,I did it, hello!”, but she lived in a filthy apartment, with tissues and old bodily fluids and gods know what else so jail seems fine,I’m sure she’ll accept all kinds of “love” there.

As a final word, for me, Satou was never a lolicon, she just wanted to have this sweet feeling cos the world was either empty or bitter for her, Shio wanted to be needed and was drawn to Satou cos her “jar” /heart was empty but not broken, unlike her mother’s. Asahi just wanted to find his little sister and be happy, tough luck kid, the friend..we can really tell it hit hard on Satou to had killed her, like she actually felt bad about it.
Thus it ends, a fine title as another one begins.
